Creating Independence: Packing your bag

Help your child create their own independence before and after school, a great habit is to teach them a routine of packing and unpacking their bag in the morning and in the afternoon.

To get ready for school you can pack your bag in the morning or the night before!

LETS START PACKING!

Have a plan about what you want to put in your bag. Make sure you have all the things you want to put in your bag set out on a bench so you can see exactly what you want to put in your bag.

When packing your bag you can break up the larger items into smaller ones. Make sure you have all your books in your bag first at the back of the bag. By putting your books at the back it will make it smooth and comfortable!

PLAN AHEAD:

Make sure when you put your books in your bag to check to see if you have any homework or assignments due on that day and to pack them as well.

Tip (older years): Look at your diary to check what subjects you have on that day to take the correct books to school

IT'S OK TO ASK FOR HELP!

Remember if you are struggling to keep up with your homework and having difficulty completing it, you can ask mum/dad and your teacher for help!

School is all about learning and learning new skills, sometimes this can be a little challenging. That is ok! When learning new skills it can be quite hard but that's all part of the learning process. If things at school are getting a little too much and too hard it is ok to ask your teacher or your parents to help!

PENCIL CASE:

When packing your pencil case in your bag make sure you have all the equipment you need for the day in your pencil case. For example make sure you have all your pencils and pens!

FUEL YOUR BODY WITH GOOD FOOD

Going to school takes a lot of energy and effort, so you have to fuel your body with the right foods to help you focus and stay on the right task for the whole day. It is important to fill your lunch box with heaps of fruit and veggies to keep you healthy and give you energy!

These can be prepared the night before and put in the fridge to be added to your bag in the morning.

DON'T FORGET WATER!

Water is very important and it is very important to have it with you all day long to keep you focused in class.

If you don’t drink enough water you will become dehydrated! You will have trouble focusing in class and will become distracted. When you don’t drink enough water you will have very low energy and will have a lot of trouble playing at play time with your friends.

So make sure to drink your water! Especially after play time when you have been running around. Drinking water will keep you hydrated for the day and give you a load of energy!

Water intake is so important to keep up during the day as it keeps your energy levels up and the fatigue levels down.

IS IT A SPORT/LIBRARY DAY?

Make sure you check your diary to see if it is a sports day, news, music or library day!

If needed pack your sport clothes, library bag or musical instrument or any other special items for the day.

Things to remember: Do not pack too much in your school bag and make sure the order is correct so it is not overflowing, if everything doesn't all fit in the school bag maybe have another look to see if everything you need in there is needed for that day at school.

Don't forget your hat- No hat, No play!!

GREAT JOB! YOU ARE READY TO GO TO SCHOOL!
